Ascension Day is 40 days after Easter. It happens to fall on a Thursday. Our church does not typically hold Ascension Day services, so we wanted to talk about the significance of the Ascension today.
When Jesus ascended into heaven, he gave his disciples some parting instructions. He first reminds his disciples how he suffered and died, but then rose from the dead. This is good news. And not just good news. It is the best news of all!
It is news that leads us to proclaim repentance for the forgiveness of sins to all nations. This good news starts with us, but it does not stay with us. We are compelled to share it with others.
The text for today is Luke 24:44-53.
