Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”Matthew 9:37–38, ESV
Worship for September 27, 2020
Worship begins this morning at 10 am. We will stream live on Facebook and Youtube beginning at 9:45 am. If you are worshipping online, make sure to share a comment on our live feed to let us know you are with us! If you miss one of our live stream worship services, they are archived at gs4nj.org/virtual-worship.
We begin a new message series today called Cross Training. It is all about what it means to follow Jesus as his disciples. Today, Pastor Phil introduces the message series by asking:
- Are you a disciple of Jesus?
- What makes you a follower of Jesus?
There is a message outline to go along with today’s message. We encourage you to download it on our website and print it out to follow along with today’s sermon.
Because of current restrictions caused by the pandemic, we are requiring everyone to make a reservation before attending in-person worship. Reservations are now available through the end of October. Please note that reservations close each week at the end of the day on Thursday. Reservations are first-come, first-served as we are limited to 75 people in worship.
Everyone who attends will be required to:
- Register on-line
- Wear a mask at all times – please bring your own. Masks will not be provided.
- Maintain social distancing – pews will be marked. Ushers will direct you to your assigned seats.
- Use hand sanitizer as needed.
Please note that there will be no childcare provided during the service.
Voters’ Meeting TODAY
Our Spring Voters’ Meeting was postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The purpose of that meeting was to approve the budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Since the meeting was not held, the Admin Board produced an “emergency budget” that we have been operating off of for the last few months. We have rescheduled that voters’ meeting, to approve the budget, for today..
Because this meeting will be held in close proximity to when our Fall Voters’ meeting would be held, we will be combining the business from both the Spring and Fall Voters’ Meeting. What this means is that we will not only be approving the budget, we will also be electing members for our Admin Board. We have 3 positions on the Board that will be up for election this year.
If you registered for this meeting, but did not receive the information packet, please email email@example.com
Confirmation & First Communion Celebrations
Last Sunday, we celebrated Confirmation and First Communion. Students confirmed were Danica L, Jacob L, and Bernadette M.
Our First Communion Students were Amelia F, Russell M, Taylor B, and Taylor C. May God Bless you all on your special day.
Fall Work Day
Our Fall Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Please email the church office firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help. There are many small tasks and a few larger ones, so the more hands we have the more we can get done.
Children’s Virtual Sunday School
We are working to implement a virtual Sunday School. The classes will be done via Zoom and will start at 9am. Registration will be online for all students. 5 & 6th Grade will begin this week and we hope for the other grades to begin soon.
If you would like to serve as a teacher or help us with this effort, please call the church office at 732-679-8883 or email us at email@example.com. We have scheduled a meeting for anyone interested in serving as a volunteer following the voters’ meeting today.
Streaming Upgrade Update
We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated to upgrade our live streaming equipment. We have raised $5453 through this effort and we have purchased $5421 in equipment. We are still tweaking the setup and you may have noticed some focusing issues last Sunday. But we hope to have that resolved for this Sunday. Overall, we hope that those who are watching online have noticed an improved difference.
Where does that leave us? We have one more PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) camera that we would like to purchase to complete the camera set up. We need to raise another $2100 for purchase and installation. But that would complete our video upgrades once we raise those funds.
We have further upgrades we hope to make in the sanctuary in the coming year. This would include new carpet, lighting, and seating. We hope to share some more info about this at our next voter’s meeting on September 27.

GSCC Begins the New School Year
The new school year has begun! We opened the new year with preschool and kindergarten classes. We have also added a second kindergarten class because of increased demand. Another option that is being offered is a remote learning center for 6-13-year-old children. This is a great option for working parents who cannot be home during the day to help their children with remote learning.
We do have a great need for volunteers to help out with morning check-in. To get more information on these volunteer opportunities, contact our Children’s Center office at 732-679-8887.
GSCC will be having a Pie Fundraiser for Thanksgiving. The pies are from Battleview Orchards. Pies are $15. each. Orders must be placed and paid for by October 12th and must be picked up on Tuesday November 24th. Pies available are Apple, Blueberry Crumb, Cherry Crumb, Coconut Custard, Dutch Apple, Pecan, Pumpkin or Lemon Crunch. They also have a no sugar added Apple pie. If you wish to order, please send your order to the church office along with your payment no later than October 12th. Be sure to add your Name, Phone Number and email so we can reach you if needed.
Men’s Bible Study
The current Men’s Bible Study is “Kingdom Stewardship” and meets on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am in the Fellowship Hall (be sure to wear your mask). This study will run until September 7th. This Bible Study is also available through Zoom: at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87993766119?pwd=ZDlXRlBaUTBsblR6NUVRbUticlpNUT09
A reservation is not required to attend the Bible Study in-person, but if you plan to worship, make sure to make your reservation.
Women’s Bible Study
Now that school is back in session and summer is coming to a close, Sonya and Randi are resuming our Women’s Bible Study group and all the women to join us, whether you have previously participated or not! These are relaxed sessions lasting about an hour and a half, where we can take the time to read the Bible, discuss the topics introduced and enjoy each other’s company.
This fall, we will be studying the book of James. Over 11 weeks (we will wrap up this series on Monday, Nov 23), we will review and discuss the five chapters of this book, which is considered to be one of the earliest New Testament books to have been written. James presents a practical guide to a Christian living and chides those who would believe that faith alone is all that is necessary to lead a Christian life – “…faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17.
We will be physically meeting in the Conference Room on Monday, Sep 14 at 7pm. If you would prefer, you may join the meeting via Zoom by following the link below:
Please email Marie at firstname.lastname@example.org to get a copy of the study guide if you plan to attend.
