September Verse of the Month

Worship for September 6, 2020
Worship begins this morning at 10am. We will stream live on Facebook and Youtube beginning at 9:45am. If you are worshipping online, make sure to share a comment on our live feed to let us know you are with us! If you miss one of our live stream worship services, they are archived at gs4nj.org/virtual-worship. There is a message outline available on our website. Make sure to download and print it out to follow along during the service.
This is an exciting Sunday. We will be installing Jeff Campbell as our new vicar.
This weekend would have been the weekend we held our launch celebration. Unfortunately, we will not be having our picnic. Nevertheless, we will share a video presentation to celebrate he beginning of the new school year at Good Shepherd Children’s Center.
Because of current restrictions caused by the pandemic, we are requiring everyone to make a reservation before attending in-person worship. Reservations are now available through October 4th. Please note that reservations close each week at the end of the day on Thursday. Reservations are first-come, first-served as we are limited to 75 people in worship. If you are not one of the first 75 people to make a reservation, you will be able to put your name on a waiting list.
Everyone who attends will be required to:
- Wear a mask at all times – please bring your own. Masks will not be provided.
- Maintain social distancing – pews will be marked. Ushers will direct you to your assigned seats.
- Use hand sanitizer as needed.
Please note that there will be no childcare provided during the service.
September 27 Voters’ Meeting
Our Spring Voters’ Meeting was postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The purpose of that meeting was to approve the budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Since the meeting was not held, the Admin Board produced an “emergency budget” that we have been operating off of for the last few months. We have rescheduled that voters’ meeting, to approve the budget, for Sunday, September 27, following worship.
Because this meeting will be held in close proximity to when our Fall Voters’ meeting would be held, we will be combining the business from both the Spring and Fall Voters’ Meeting. What this means is that we will not only be approving the budget, we will also be electing members for our Admin Board. We have 3 positions on the Board that will be up for election this year. Therefore, we are now taking nominations for the Board. If you have someone who you believe would serve well on the Board or you have an interest in serving yourself, you can submit a nomination to firstname.lastname@example.org or 732-679-8883.
The voters’ meeting will be held in-person, but we will also be giving everyone the opportunity to participate online via Zoom. Everyone who attends in-person or online will be required to register beforehand. You can make your reservations at https://gsnj.churchcenter.com/registrations.
Streaming Upgrade Update
Thank you to everyone who has donated to support our live-streaming upgrades. We have raised $4300 towards the to-date. We have purchased and received a new camera and video switcher. These were installed this past week and will be used to live-stream our Sunday worship service. We have a second camera that is on order and should arrive this coming week.
Where does that leave us? We would like to purchase one more camera that will cost us $1900 purchase and install. That would fully complete the camera upgrades. If you would like to help us complete these camera upgrades, you can still donate through the live-stream upgrade fund. We will also be looking to make further upgrades to lighting and sound in the next year, but we will wait to share about those upgrades until we have a better understanding of the full scale of those projects.
Serve on Our AV Team
If you would like to help out with this new equipment, our AV team is in need of additional volunteers to help with our live streaming efforts. We are in special need of individuals who would be willing to be cross-trained in operating both sound and video equipment. This is ministry is vitally important in helping us to continue to minister to those who are unable to worship in-person with us. We thank you for your consideration in serving in this important kingdom endeavor. For more information, contact Pastor Phil at email@example.com.
GSCC Begins New School Year
Good Shepherd Children’s Center began the new school year this week. We will be opened the new school year with preschool and kindergarten classes. We have also added a second kindergarten class because of increased demand. Another option that is being offered is a remote learning center for 6-13-year-old children. This is a great option for working parents who cannot be home during the day to help their children with remote learning.
We do have a great need for volunteers to help out with morning check-in. To get more information on these volunteer opportunities, contact our Children’s Center office at 732-679-8887.
Children’s Virtual Sunday School (Begins September 27)
We are working to implement a virtual Sunday School that will tentatively begin on Sunday, September 27. The classes will be done via Zoom and will start at 9am. If you would like to serve as a teacher or help us with this effort, please call the church office at 732-679-8883 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will have more information for parents soon.

Women’s Bible Study
Now that school is back in session and summer is coming to a close, Sonya and Randi are resuming our Women’s Bible Study group and all the women to join us, whether you have previously participated or not! These are relaxed sessions lasting about an hour and a half, where we can take the time to read the Bible, discuss the topics introduced and enjoy each other’s company.
This fall, we will be studying the book of James. Over 11 weeks (we will wrap up this series on Monday, Nov 23), we will review and discuss the five chapters of this book, which is considered to be one of the earliest New Testament books to have been written. James presents a practical guide to a Christian living and chides those who would believe that faith alone is all that is necessary to lead a Christian life – “…faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17.
We will be physically meeting in the Conference Room on Monday, Sep 14 at 7pm. If you would prefer, you may join the meeting via Zoom by following the link below:
Please email Marie at email@example.com to get a copy of the study guide if you plan to attend.
Confirmation & First Communion
Both Confirmation and First Communion were postponed because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. We have rescheduled both of those events and Confirmation will take place at 1pm and First Communion will be held at 3pm on Sunday, September 20.
