October Verse of the Month
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.John 5:24, ESV
Happy Birthday Good Shepherd
60 years ago, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd held its first worship service at Alan B. Shepherd Elementary School in Old Bridge on October 2, 1960. Much has changed throughout the years. But this weekend we celebrate the generations of ministry in service to our Lord and our community.
Worship begins this morning at 10 am. We will stream live on Facebook and Youtube beginning at 9:45 am. If you are worshipping online, make sure to share a comment on our live feed to let us know you are with us! If you miss one of our live stream worship services, they are archived at gs4nj.org/virtual-worship.
Our second message in the Cross Training series is on the “Training Manual.” It is the Bible! This training manual is essential if we are to follow Jesus. You simply cannot follow Jesus unless you know where Jesus is leading you.
There is a message outline to go along with today’s message. We encourage you to download it on our website and print it out to follow along with today’s sermon.
Because of current restrictions caused by the pandemic, we are requiring everyone to make a reservation before attending in-person worship. Reservations are now available through the end of October. Please note that reservations close each week at the end of the day on Thursday. Reservations are first-come, first-served as we are limited to 75 people in worship.
Everyone who attends will be required to:
- Register on-line
- Wear a mask at all times – please bring your own. Masks will not be provided.
- Maintain social distancing – pews will be marked. Ushers will direct you to your assigned seats.
- Use hand sanitizer as needed.
Please note that there will be no childcare provided during the service.
Live Prayer Begins October 7

Fall Work Day
Our Fall Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Please email the church office email@example.com if you can help. There are many small tasks and a few larger ones, so the more hands we have the more we can get done.
Children’s Virtual Sunday School
We are working to implement a virtual and in-person Sunday School. The classes will be done via Zoom and will start at 9am. Registration will be online for all students. 5 & 6th grade has already begun, but we hope for other classes to begin soon.
Confirmation & First Communion Celebrations
On Sunday, September 20 we celebrated Confirmation and First Communion. Students confirmed were Danica L, Jacob L, and Bernadette M.
Our First Communion Students were Amelia F, Russell M, Taylor B, and Taylor C. May God Bless you all on your special day.
Men’s Bible Study
The current Men’s Bible Study is “Kingdom Stewardship” and meets on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am in the Fellowship Hall (be sure to wear your mask). This study will run until September 7th. This Bible Study is also available through Zoom: at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87993766119?pwd=ZDlXRlBaUTBsblR6NUVRbUticlpNUT09
A reservation is not required to attend the Bible Study in-person, but if you plan to worship, make sure to make your reservation.
Women’s Bible Study
Now that school is back in session and summer is coming to a close, Sonya and Randi have resumed our Women’s Bible Study group and have invited all the women to join us, whether you have previously participated or not! These are relaxed sessions lasting about an hour and a half, where we can take the time to read the Bible, discuss the topics introduced, and enjoy each other’s company.
This fall, we are studying the book of James. Over 11 weeks (we will wrap up this series on Monday, Nov 23), we will review and discuss the five chapters of this book, which is considered to be one of the earliest New Testament books to have been written. James presents a practical guide to a Christian living and chides those who would believe that faith alone is all that is necessary to lead a Christian life – “…faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17.
We will be physically meeting in the Conference Room on Monday, Sep 14 at 7pm. If you would prefer, you may join the meeting via Zoom by following the link below:
Please email Marie at firstname.lastname@example.org to get a copy of the study guide if you plan to attend.
