Ministry Update October 11, 2020

October Verse of the Month

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 5:24, ESV

Cross Training Message Series

Our third message in the Cross Training series is “Talk to the Coach.” This message is all about prayer. Prayer is a gift from God that enables us to draw closer to God. Unfortunately, we often talk more about prayer than we actually pray. In this message, Pastor Phil will encourage us not only to make use of this gift but will also challenge the ways in which we pray.

There is a message outline to go along with today’s message. We encourage you to download it on our website and print it out to follow along with today’s sermon.

Attending Worship In-Person

Because of current restrictions caused by the pandemic, we are requiring everyone to make a reservation before attending in-person worship. Reservations are now available through the end of October. Please note that reservations close each week at the end of the day on Thursday. Reservations are first-come, first-served as we are limited to 75 people in worship.

Everyone who attends will be required to:

  • Register on-line
  • Wear a mask at all times – please bring your own.  Masks will not be provided.
  • Maintain social distancing – pews will be marked.  Ushers will direct you to your assigned seats.
  • Use hand sanitizer as needed.

Please note that there will be no childcare provided during the service.

Online Giving

Visit gs4nj.org/give to donate. You can donate with a credit card or have the funds debited from your checking account. You can also set up automated giving set up on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or twice-monthly basis.

Another option to give is text to give. Text any dollar amount to 84321. We will reply with a link to a quick, self-guided setup process to tie your mobile phone to our church, your donor account, and a payment source.

All of this is easily managed through an online account that is set up the first time you give. There is also an app that can be used to manage your giving. It is available on iOS and Android.

As always checks can also be mailed to:

3139 County Rd 516
Old Bridge, NJ 08857

Get the Church Center App

Did you know there is an app to manage your giving and reservations? It is the Church Center app that is available on both iPhone and Android. It is quick, easy, and convenient. Make sure to check it out.

Fall Work Day

Thank You to everyone who came out to help with our Fall Work Day. We got a number of projects completed.

Children’s Sunday School

We are restarting Sunday School on Sunday mornings at 9am. There are in-person and virtual options. Register your children online today!

Men’s Bible Study

Men’s Bible study will begin a new session on October 25 at 8:30am. We will meet in the conference room. And there will also be an option to call in via zoom. This Study will meet for four weeks until November 15.

We will be using a book called Man Up! What makes a man a man? Man Up! cuts through all the noise of the world’s ideas of masculinity and goes back to what our Creator says about being a man in His creation. It isn’t about taking down the feminists or reclaiming your rights as a man. It’s about living in the example and grace of Jesus. So fix your eyes on the Man up on the cross and embark on a journey to become more masculine (no weight lifting required).

Women’s Bible Study

Now that school is back in session and summer is coming to a close, Sonya and Randi have resumed our Women’s Bible Study group and have invited all the women to join us, whether you have previously participated or not!  These are relaxed sessions lasting about an hour and a half, where we can take the time to read the Bible, discuss the topics introduced, and enjoy each other’s company.

This fall, we are studying the book of James.  Over 11 weeks (we will wrap up this series on Monday, Nov 23), we will review and discuss the five chapters of this book, which is considered to be one of the earliest New Testament books to have been written.  James presents a practical guide to a Christian living and chides those who would believe that faith alone is all that is necessary to lead a Christian life –  “…faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2:17.

We will be physically meeting in the Conference Room on Monday, Sep 14 at 7pm.  If you would prefer, you may join the meeting via Zoom by following the link below:

Please email Marie at marie@gs4nj.org to get a copy of the study guide if you plan to attend.

Happy Birthday Good Shepherd

We celebrated the 60th Anniversary of our first worship service during last weekend’s worship. We showed several videos as part of that celebration. If you missed it, you can view the videos on YouTube. Much has changed throughout the years but one thing has remained the same. Jesus is Lord and Savior!

Harvest Fest Canceled

Harvest Fest at the end of October has been canceled because of the ongoing pandemic. We pray that we will be able to host it next year.

Amazon Prime Day

Amazon has announced Amazon Prime Day this year. If you already shop Amazon, make sure to shop at smile.amazon.com to help support a charity of your cause, including Good Shepherd.
