Worship for May 30, 2021
It is Memorial Day Weekend. We remember all those who gave their lives for the cause of freedom. We will not forget their sacrifice that secured our freedom. At the same time, we reflect upon how God remembers his covenant with us. We remember his faithfulness so that we do not take his mercy and grace for granted. Join us for worship at 10 am on Sunday morning. The service will also be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
Mask Mandate Dropped
The CDC and the State of New Jersey announced that masks are no longer necessary for people (indoors or outdoors). Masks will no longer be required to attend in-person worship. However, in keeping with State guidelines, people who have not been vaccinated or have health issues are strongly encouraged to continue wearing masks.
Updated Communion Procedures
We have once again began inviting congregants to come forward to receive communion. But you are still welcome to come forward to received if you feel uncomfortable. If you plan to receive communion and not come forward, ask our ushers for the elements as you enter the sanctuary.
Marie Bergfeldt Retirement Party
Marie is retiring from her administrative assistant position on July 7. We have not had much of an opportunity to celebrate together in the last year. So we want to invite everyone to join us on July 3 at 6pm for a retirement party. We want to show our appreciation to Marie for her many years of dedicated service. The details of this event are still being planned and will share more in the weeks to come.
May Verse of the Month
Our verse of the month for May is not a verse, but a chapter of Scripture. It is the 23rd Psalm. This is a beloved and well-known Psalm that you may already have memorized. Each month we feature a new verse of the month and offer a challenge to join us in memorizing it.
Congratulations to our First Communion Students
God’s blessing to our students who received the Sacrament of the Altar for the first time last Sunday. To God be the glory!

Summer Family Day
We did not have Vacation Bible School last summer because of Covid. This summer we will not have a full week of VBS, but we are planning to have a family fun day on Sunday, August 1. In the afternoon, we will have lessons, games, and crafts for kids. The event will conclude with a picnic. We are entering the planning phase for this event. If you would like to be part of the planning, send us an email at email@example.com.
We are in need of large cardboard boxes for this event.
NJ District Convention
The LCMS NJ District Convention was held on Friday, May 21, in Clinton, NJ. Pastor Phil and Jan B represented Good Shepherd as voting delegates. Marth B was also there to run the live-stream. During the convention, Pastor Phil was elected at the region 3 Vice-President of the District which covers the southern half of the state. Below is the video from the installation service.
Men’s Bible Study
Our men’s Bible Study titled “Faith That Sees Through Culture” is hosted on Sunday Mornings at 8:30 am in the Conference Room or via Zoom. For anyone still interested in joining, it’s not too late to join.
Ways to Financially Support Good Shepherd
Visit gs4nj.org/give to donate. You can donate with a credit card or have the funds debited from your checking account. You can also set up automated giving set up on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or twice-monthly basis.
Another option to give is text to give. Text any dollar amount to 84321. We will reply with a link to a quick, self-guided setup process to tie your mobile phone to our church, your donor account, and a payment source.
As always checks can also be mailed. Visit our contact page for our mailing address.
If you already shop at Amazon, it is easy to support our ministry. Instead of going to amazon.com to shop, just add “smile.” before amazon.com. So the link will be smile.amazon.com. Any time you make a purchase at this link 0.5% of your purchase will go to the charity of your choice. It may not be much, but it adds up over time and as more of us make use of this service. Please keep in mind that you need to use the smile link every time you make a purchase. If you go back to using the regular Amazon link or use the Amazon app, we will not get a donation with those purchases.
Shop with Scrip
Scrip gift cards are available immediately following the Sunday worship in the Narthex. There are many cards to chose from and specific gift cards if you want. Be sure to ask what other cards are available. There are hundreds to choose from. We are grateful for all who have purchased these cards in support of our ministry. Be sure to stop and pick up a few cards.
