May Verse of the Month
“As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:4–5, ESV)
Memorial Day Weekend
This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. It is more than the unofficial beginning of Summer. It is a weekend to remember those who sacrificially gave their lives so that we can live in freedom. We are grateful for their sacrifice and we will never forget! We also remember the one who gave his life to give us the ultimate freedom over sin, death, and the Devil. That is Jesus our Savior.
We wish everyone an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend!
Worship is this morning at 10am. You can join in on YouTube or Facebook. The live stream will begin at 9:45am. Our message for today is “Keeping the Faith.” The reading is 1 Peter 4:12-19; 5:6-11. Make sure to download our Message Outline before worship begins.
Share a comment on our live feed to let us know you are with us! Our comment of the day is: “What are you looking forward to this summer?” Share in the comments on YouTube or Facebook during the live feed.
If you miss one of our live stream worship services, they are archived at gs4nj.org/virtual-worship.
Admin Board Update
Spring Voters’ Meeting
Our May Voters’ Meeting has been postponed until September 27. The purpose of this meeting was to approve the new budget that goes into effect on July 1. Because the voters will not be able to approve the budget before July 1, the Admin Board is drafting an emergency budget that will be used until the congregation can approve a new budget in person.
Children’s Center Update
The Children’s Center and Church applied for the Paycheck Protection Program from the Federal Government, and was awarded $84K to be used to retain teachers and staff. We have continued to pay our Staff (GSCC Teachers, Aides, Director) as well as Pastor, Marie, Greg, and Martha (cleaning). We will need to apply to the Government showing how we used the money so the loan can be considered a forgivable grant rather than a loan.
We have been notified by the state that all private schools are to remain closed until the end of June. The Good Shepherd Children’s Center summer program is tentative, as is the September 2020 start date. The state is developing requirements for schools, and we must evaluate how we can comply without incurring a large cost deficit.
The GSCC Teachers have continued to provide assignments and interaction with their students, but we have not charged parents for this service. We hope that by our generosity, parents will return to us when they can and we will continue to retain our excellent customer satisfaction and service that we have been known for. We also are planning a celebration for our students on June 8 – 10. We envision it will be a “parade” with the parents staying in their cars, driving up to the staff, who will hand out diplomas and end of the year gifts.
We continue to monitor the state requirements for re-opening, and pray that we will be able to continue our excellent program as soon as possible.
Our Brother’s Keeper’s Fund was established to assist members of our Good Shepherd family in times of financial need. The balance of this fund now stands at more than $13K. Since the beginning of our social isolation, we have only had one request to use this fund. If you are in financial need or know of another member of our Good Shepherd family in need, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Total income from February through April was $83,824. Expenses were $79,950.
Check out Pastor Phil’s video highlighting some of the recent facility upgrades. These upgrades were funded in part from our Year-End Offering and from funds from our Cemetery Fund.
Did you know that Good Shepherd owns a section of Forest Green Park Cemetery on Texas Rd? These plots are available for purchase by Good Shepherd Members. The funds from these plots are used to help cover the expenses from special projects. Some of these funds have been used in combination with our Year-End Offering for facility upgrades. If you are interested in purchasing a plot for you or your family, please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 732-679-8883.
New Online Giving
We are excited to share that we have overhauled our online giving to make it easier and more convenient to give. Simply visit gs4nj.org/give to donate. You can donate with a credit card or have the funds debited from your checking account. You can also set up automated giving set up on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or twice-monthly basis.
Another option to give is text to give. Text any dollar amount to 84321. We will reply with a link to a quick, self-guided setup process to tie your mobile phone to our church, your donor account, and a payment source.
As always checks can also be mailed to:
3139 County Rd 516
Old Bridge, NJ 08857
We offer the opportunity to participate together with us in the Lord’s Supper during our online worship. We invite you to join us if you share our beliefs and have been instructed in those beliefs. If you plan to participate, make sure to have bread and wine prepared before worship begins.
1 Peter Message Series
Today is the 7th Sunday of Easter. It is the last Sunday of Easter and next week we will celebrate Pentecost. We will conclude our 1 Peter Message Series as we look at 1 Peter 4:12-19; 5:6-11. Make sure to download today’s message outline before worship begins.
The 1 Peter reading challenge is over, but we want to encourage you to continue to read and meditate on God’s Word on a daily basis. Additionally, we offer our Good Shepherd Daily Bible Readings at gs4nj.org/biblereadings.
Attention Children (and Parents)
