Worship for May 23, 2021
Today is First Communion Sunday. We rejoice with our students who will receive the Sacrament of the Altar for the first time. To God be the glory! There are no reservations required to attend in-person worship. The service will also be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
Covid Restrictions Update
Earlier this week, the State removed travel restrictions. You no longer need to quarantine if you travel out-of-state regardless if you are vaccinated or not. But we still ask everyone to maintain social distancing.
The CDC has announced that masks are no longer necessary for people (indoors or outdoors) who have been vaccinated. However, the State of NJ has not changed the requirement. We seek to remain compliant to guidelines set by the CDC and the State of New Jersey. Therefore, WE WILL STILL REQUIRE MASKS ON SUNDAY MORNING until further guidance is provided by the State. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We hope that the State of New Jersey will soon remove the mask mandate.
Updated Communion Procedures
This weekend, we will begin to invite people to come forward to receive communion. There will be no common cup and it will be served in a continuous fashion. If you are uncomfortable coming forward, you will still have the option to receive communion in place as we have done for the last year. But we are excited to start to move past some of the Covid restrictions.
May Verse of the Month
Our verse of the month for May is not a verse, but a chapter of Scripture. It is the 23rd Psalm. This is a beloved and well-known Psalm that you may already have memorized. Each month we feature a new verse of the month and offer a challenge to join us in memorizing it.
Congratulations to our Confirmation Students
Congratulations to our students who were confirmed last Sunday. God’s blessings as you strive to live out your faith. To God be the glory!

Summer Family Day
We did not have Vacation Bible School last summer because of Covid. This summer we will not have a full week of VBS, but we are planning to have a family fun day on Sunday, August 1. In the afternoon, we will have lessons, games, and crafts for kids. The event will conclude with a picnic. We are entering the planning phase for this event. If you would like to be part of the planning, send us an email at email@example.com.
NJ District Convention
The LCMS NJ District Convention was held on Friday in Clinton, NJ. Pastor Phil and Jan B represented Good Shepherd as voting delegates. Marth B was also there to run the live-stream. During the convention, Pastor Phil was elected at the region 3 Vice-President of the District which covers the southern half of the state. Below is the video from the installation service.
Men’s Bible Study
Our men’s Bible Study titled “Faith That Sees Through Culture” is hosted on Sunday Mornings at 8:30 am in the Conference Room or via Zoom. For anyone still interested in joining, it’s not too late to join.
Ways to Financially Support Good Shepherd
Visit gs4nj.org/give to donate. You can donate with a credit card or have the funds debited from your checking account. You can also set up automated giving set up on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or twice-monthly basis.
Another option to give is text to give. Text any dollar amount to 84321. We will reply with a link to a quick, self-guided setup process to tie your mobile phone to our church, your donor account, and a payment source.
As always checks can also be mailed. Visit our contact page for our mailing address.
If you already shop at Amazon, it is easy to support our ministry. Instead of going to amazon.com to shop, just add “smile.” before amazon.com. So the link will be smile.amazon.com. Any time you make a purchase at this link 0.5% of your purchase will go to the charity of your choice. It may not be much, but it adds up over time and as more of us make use of this service. Please keep in mind that you need to use the smile link every time you make a purchase. If you go back to using the regular Amazon link or use the Amazon app, we will not get a donation with those purchases.
Shop with Scrip
Scrip gift cards are available immediately following the Sunday worship in the Narthex. There are many cards to chose from and specific gift cards if you want. Be sure to ask what other cards are available. There are hundreds to choose from. We are grateful for all who have purchased these cards in support of our ministry. Be sure to stop and pick up a few cards.
