This week we are entering into a new normal. The way we live our lives is being dramatically altered. We are all going to be learning new routines. Many of those routines revolve around our faith life.
Yesterday’s sermon is now posted on our website. In this message, I share counsel from God’s Word on how to respond to Coronavirus. You can watch the video here: https://www.gs4nj.org/coronavirus-how-do-we-respond/.
It is also important that we help each other out in times like these. If you find yourself in need, please reach out. Whether you need toilet paper, milk, or bread – we can share these things together. If you are financially distressed, know that we have our Brother’s Keeper Fund to help out in difficult times. Please call the church office at 732-679-8883 or email.
Good Shepherd Children’s Center is effectively closed. However, as a ministry to our community, we have child care available for those in an absolute situation of need. If you have no other option for child care, please reach out to our Children’s Center office at 732-679-8887.
NJ is now limiting public gatherings to no more than 50 people and imposing an 8pm curfew. This means that we will be moving to online worship only until further notice. We will be broadcasting worship on Sunday morning at 10am. These services will be designed for an at-home experience. We will be sharing login information in the days to come.
On Wednesday evening at 7pm, I am inviting everyone to join together in prayer for our church, community, nation, and world. I will be hosting a prayer meeting online. You can join in at https://zoom.us/j/858626171. You will need to download the zoom app on your phone or install the software on your computer. There is also an option to call in and simply listen. The upcoming prayer vigil will be canceled, but I want to invite you to join in during this time of prayer. It is my hope to continue this gathering every Wednesday until we return to a sense of normalcy.
In regards to children’s ministry, there will be no Sunday School. However, I have asked our Sunday School staff to work to make materials available for families. The Easter Egg Hunt will be canceled this year. First Communion Weekend will be moved to May 17 which is the same weekend as Confirmation.
In the effort to practice social distancing, we discourage the physical gathering of people at any meetings or Bible Studies for the next couple of weeks. We can make use of video conferencing technologies.
The situation changes by the hour. So we encourage you to continue to monitor our church website, mailing-lists, and Facebook Page. This all has greatly disrupted our lives. But I encourage you to consider the opportunities that this time affords. We are busy people who never seem to have time to slow down. Now you are being forced to slow down. See the blessing in that. Pick up a book. Start a new exercise routine. Get outdoors and get some fresh air. Spend more quality time with your kids. Learn a new skill, like cooking, woodwork, or sewing. Turn off the TV and play a board game. Start that home improvement project you have been putting off.
Be blessed. Be healthy. Be Well.
