Worship for June 20, 2021
Just before the beginning of Covid, a group of leaders gathered to set a new vision for our church. Now that we are moving past the disruption that was caused by Covid, it is time to move forward. In today’s message, Pastor Phil continues our series where he shares this new vision. In this message, he explains what the vision means for each of our individual relationships with God.
Marie Bergfeldt Retirement Party
Marie is retiring from her administrative assistant position on July 7. We have not had much of an opportunity to celebrate together in the last year. So we want to invite everyone to join us on July 3 at 6pm for a retirement party. We want to show our appreciation to Marie for her many years of dedicated service. The details of this event are still being planned and will share more in the weeks to come.
Bible Adventure Day & Family Picnic
We did not have Vacation Bible School last summer because of Covid. This summer we will not have a full week of VBS, but we are planning to have a Bible Adventure Day & Family Picnic on Sunday, August 1. Starting at 2pm, we will have lessons, games, and crafts for kids. The event will conclude with a picnic at 5pm. If you would like to be part of the planning, send us an email at email@example.com.
We are in need of large cardboard boxes for this event.
June Verse of the Month
Our verse of the month for June is Psalm 1:1-3. It is the basis of of today’s message on the future vision of Good Shepherd.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.(Psalm 1:1–3, ESV)
Mask Mandate Dropped
The CDC and the State of New Jersey announced that masks are no longer necessary for people (indoors or outdoors). Masks will no longer be required to attend in-person worship. However, in keeping with State guidelines, people who have not been vaccinated or have health issues are strongly encouraged to continue wearing masks.
Updated Communion Procedures
We have once again began inviting congregants to come forward to receive communion. But you are still welcome to come forward to received if you feel uncomfortable. If you plan to receive communion and not come forward, ask our ushers for the elements as you enter the sanctuary.
Sanctuary Carpet Update
The new carpet for the sanctuary has been delivered. Unfortunately, we are going to need to store it away for a little bit before it can be installed. Some of the media equipment that is necessary for moving the media equipment is on back-order. We are currently waiting for this equipment to become available before installing the carpet.
Midweek Prayer July 21
Midweek Prayer will be hosted monthly rather than weekly during the summer. Our next Midweek Prayer service is scheduled for this Wednesday, July 21. You can submit any prayer requests on our website and sign up to be part of our email prayer team.
Men’s Bible Study
Our men’s Bible Study titled “Faith That Sees Through Culture” is hosted on Sunday Mornings at 8:30 am in the Conference Room or via Zoom. For anyone still interested in joining, it’s not too late to join.
Ways to Financially Support Good Shepherd
Visit gs4nj.org/give to donate. You can donate with a credit card or have the funds debited from your checking account. You can also set up automated giving set up on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or twice-monthly basis.
Another option to give is text to give. Text any dollar amount to 84321. We will reply with a link to a quick, self-guided setup process to tie your mobile phone to our church, your donor account, and a payment source.
As always checks can also be mailed. Visit our contact page for our mailing address.
If you already shop at Amazon, it is easy to support our ministry. Instead of going to amazon.com to shop, just add “smile.” before amazon.com. So the link will be smile.amazon.com. Any time you make a purchase at this link 0.5% of your purchase will go to the charity of your choice. It may not be much, but it adds up over time and as more of us make use of this service. Please keep in mind that you need to use the smile link every time you make a purchase. If you go back to using the regular Amazon link or use the Amazon app, we will not get a donation with those purchases.
Shop with Scrip
Scrip gift cards are available immediately following the Sunday worship in the Narthex. There are many cards to chose from and specific gift cards if you want. Be sure to ask what other cards are available. There are hundreds to choose from. We are grateful for all who have purchased these cards in support of our ministry. Be sure to stop and pick up a few cards.
