Verse of the Week
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.Luke 15:7; ESV

Fall Work Day
Please join us on Saturday, October 12th (rain date October 19) from 8:30 to ??? to help with the many things that need to be fixed, cleaned, replaced. There are many different tasks some small, some big. If you can sweep or mop a floor we can use you. If you can wash windows or dust, we can use you. There might be some outdoor stuff too. If you can help, please email the church office @ firstname.lastname@example.org. Coffee and donuts will be served.
Mark your calendars now — Sunday, October 27th from 5 – 7 pm. This event is designed to be a fun and safe alternative Halloween celebration for kids of all ages. We encourage costumes and decorations as long as they are not scary or ghoulish. We have little children who will be attending and want it to be a fun event for everyone. Most important, we want to honor Jesus in everything we do.
Thrivent Servant Event
In recognition of National Domestic Violence Month, Thrivent Consultant Cindi Crane, FIC, RICP is hosting a bag-filling event to benefit New Jersey Battered Women’s Service. JBWS provides professionally staffed programs that offer specialized services and hope, to those suffering from abuse. We will be filling 50-100 emergency backpacks for women who need
Gift card donations to grocery or big box stores (Target, Shop Rite, Walmart etc) will be collected and accepted prior to Sept 10 to purchase burner phones, phone cards and other necessities. Many of these women leave with only the clothes on their backs. Some have children with them too. JBWS will take these brave ladies to an undisclosed location and the bags we pack could be the only possessions they have.
To sign up to pack bags or to donate a $25 gift card, visit email@example.com click on EVENTS.
Good Shepherd Children’s Center News
School started on Tuesday, September 3, after a very successful summer program, which saw 57 children throughout the summer. A lot is happening this year, and we ask God to continue to bless our school, our children, and our staff.
We have only a few spaces left for the 2019-2020 school year. Mrs. Laura and Ms. Lisa’s classes are full for 3 and 5 day students, with a few openings for 2 day students, and Mrs. Debbie has 8 enrolled for the ½ day Pre-K class. Mrs. Guzman’s and Mrs. Troutman’s classes have only a few openings.
New for 2019 is Kindergarten. That’s right. We brought back Kindergarten at our Parent’s request, and we have 8 children enrolled, along with 2 Upper-Pre-K children. This is very exciting for us and we hope it continues. We also introduced a 2-1/2 year old full day classroom to accommodate those children that turn 2-1/2 during the school year. We have special curriculum for their abilities, and we love to see them grow and go on to other classes at Good Shepherd.
Two new teachers have joined our staff this year; Miss Stephanie (Kindergarten) and Miss Courtney (2-1/2 classroom). Both come to us with impressive backgrounds and work experiences.
Returning staff are Mrs. Helen Troutman (26 years), Ms. Carol Swain, (4 years), Mrs. Barbara Guzman (15 years), Mrs. Barbara Ressler (3 years), Mrs. Laura Ventura (11 years), Mrs. Doreen Sirigano (11 years), Mrs. Lisa Francavilla (13 years), Mrs. Lisa Senese (4 years), Mrs. Brenda LoDrago (2 years), Mrs. Cynthia Romeo (1 year), Mrs. Audrey Macdonald (1 year), Mrs Angelina Feury (15 years), and Mrs. Debra Pignone (2 years). Be sure to introduce yourself on September 8 at our New Beginnings Service.
Returning also is Miss Lily the Comfort Dog and her handler, Miss Linda Cinquegrana. Lily and Linda have been coming to the school on Mondays and Tuesdays for 5 years. The children love Lily (and Linda) and often know the day of the week because of their presence.
The success of the school is because of our dedicated staff, and I am so proud to be able to work with them.
Show your school spirit with our new T-Shirt (short and long sleeve) and hooded sweatshirts (pullover and zip front). Three colors are available, (red, navy blue and grey) and have our GSCC logo and name imprinted on them. Sizes include Youth Xs to Large, and Adult Small to XXL. Download an order form from the Good Shepherd Children’s Center Website.
Beginning this year, as an outreach to our younger siblings and the community, we will have a 1 hour sing and play group for 6 month olds to 3 year olds and their parents/caretakers. It will run from Wednesday, September 25 through Wednesday, November 13 in the Fellowship Hall. Coffee and juice will be served at 9 am, and the play group starts at 9:30. The price is $50 for the first child, and $40 for each additional child. Contact Marianne if you are interested in attending.
Men’s Bible Study
Join us for Men’s Bible Study every other Saturday at 8am in the resource room. Our next study is scheduled for September 28.
We are excited to announce that we have scheduled a Men’s Retreat for January 24-26, 2020 at St. Joseph’s by the Sea Retreat House in Mantoloking, NJ. We are a long way away from that date now, so we will provide more information in the coming months. But make sure to mark your calendar now to save the date.
We are putting together a security team to develop a security plan and procedures for our facility. If you would be interested in being a part of this planning team, please email the church office. The first gathering of this team will take place on Sunday, September 15 after the 10:30 worship service. If you would like to be part of this team, please email the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you miss worship on Sunday morning, you can still watch or listen to sermons online. Just visit gs4nj.org/podcast to find all our messages. We also steam live our messages on Facebook during the late worship service. You can login each Sunday around 10:50 am to hear the message.
