We will be needing tents and/or canopies for the picnic. We need salads; macaroni, potato, mixed green, desserts, and other side dishes. Please use the connection card and sign up for what you can bring and let us know how many people will be attending. Please be sure to specify what you plan on bringing so we don’t have 20 macaroni salads and one potato salad. Thank You for your help.
We will be celebrating the new school year on Sunday, September 8 with our New Beginnings worship,
Please note that we will return to two worship services at 9 am and 10:30 am beginning September 15.
We are looking for volunteers to help with Sunday School. We need teachers and assistants and floaters to help with the classes. Please sign up on today’s connection card. If you are willing to serve or would like more information, please email our church office at firstname.lastname@example.org
As a reminder, we have switched to a Summer Worship Schedule. There will be one worship service during the summer at 9:30 am with no Sunday School. Nursery Care is available for children 5 years old and younger. We will return to the two worship schedule on September 15.
Lily Anniversary Celebration
Last week we celebrated Lily’s 5th anniversary here at Good Shepherd. Abraham, the Comfort Dog came from New York for the occasion as well as some special guest from some of the places that Lily goes to. Lily is very busy with visits to schools; nursing homes, and sometimes the Library. Lily also is called to serve outside of our area. She has gone to Boston, Connecticut, Long Island and attended the National Youth Gathering in Minnesota in July. These trips are very expensive so if you would like to contribute to help pay for some of Lily’s travel expenses, it would be greatly appreciated.
Men’s Bible Study
Join us at 8:15am on Sunday Mornings during the remainder of the summer in the Resource for Men’s Bible Study. These studies are led by Jeff Campbell.
New Member Orientation
Join us for a new member orientation on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 8:30am-12:00pm. During the new member orientation, we will look at what we believe, what we value, and what it means to be a member of Good Shepherd. This is for everyone who desires to learn more about the church, is interested in becoming a member, or desires to review the basics of our faith. Sign-ups will be available in September.
Good Shepherd Children’s Center News:
School starts on Tuesday, September 3, after a very successful summer program, which saw 57 children throughout the summer. A lot is happening this year, and we ask God to continue to bless our school, our children, and our staff.
We have only a few spaces left for the 2019-2020 school year. Mrs. Laura and Ms. Lisa’s classes are full for 3 and 5 day students, with a few openings for 2 day students, and Mrs. Debbie has 8 enrolled for the ½ day Pre-K class. Mrs. Guzman’s and Mrs. Troutman’s classes have only a few openings.
New for 2019 is Kindergarten. That’s right. We brought back Kindergarten at our Parent’s request, and we have 8 children enrolled, along with 2 Upper-Pre-K children. This is very exciting for us and we hope it continues. We also introduced a 2-1/2 year old full day classroom to accommodate those children that turn 2-1/2 during the school year. We have special curriculum for their abilities, and we love to see them grow and go on to other classes at Good Shepherd.
Two new teachers have joined our staff this year; Miss Stephanie (Kindergarten) and Miss Courtney (2-1/2 classroom). Both come to us with impressive backgrounds and work experiences.
Returning staff are Mrs. Helen Troutman (26 years), Ms. Carol Swain, (4 years), Mrs. Barbara Guzman (15 years), Mrs. Barbara Ressler (3 years), Mrs. Laura Ventura (11 years), Mrs. Doreen Sirigano (11 years), Mrs. Lisa Francavilla (13 years), Mrs. Lisa Senese (4 years), Mrs. Brenda LoDrago (2 years), Mrs. Cynthia Romeo (1 year), Mrs. Audrey Macdonald (1 year), Mrs Angelina Feury (15 years), and Mrs. Debra Pignone (2 years). Be sure to introduce yourself on September 8 at our New Beginnings Service.
Returning also is Miss Lily the Comfort Dog and her handler, Miss Linda Cinquegrana. Lily and Linda have been coming to the school on Mondays and Tuesdays for 5 years. The children love Lily (and Linda) and often know the day of the week because of their presence.
The success of the school is because of our dedicated staff, and I am so proud to be able to work with them.
Show your school spirit with our new T-Shirt (short and long sleeve) and hooded sweatshirts (pullover and zip front). Three colors are available, (red, navy blue and grey) and have our GSCC logo and name imprinted on them. Sizes include Youth Xs to Large, and Adult Small to XXL. Download an order form from the Good Shepherd Children’s Center Website.
Beginning this year, as an outreach to our younger siblings and the community, we will have a 1 hour sing and play group for 6 month olds to 3 year olds and their parents/caretakers. It will run from Wednesday, September 25 through Wednesday, November 13 in the Fellowship Hall. Coffee and juice will be served at 9 am, and the play group starts at 9:30. The price is $50 for the first child, and $40 for each additional child. Contact Marianne if you are interested in attending.
We are excited to announce that we have scheduled a Men’s Retreat for January 24-26, 2020 at St. Joseph’s by the Sea Retreat House in Mantoloking, NJ. We are a long way away from that date now, so we will provide more information in the coming months. But make sure to mark your calendar now to save the date.
We are putting together a security team to develop a security plan and procedures for our facility. If you would be interested in being a part of this planning team, please email the church office. The first gathering of this team will take place on Sunday, September 15 after the 10:30 worship service. If you would like to be part of this team, please email the church office at email@example.com.
