Movie Night at Good Shepherd
Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
on Friday, January 19 at 7:30pm
This entertaining new film follows the great adventure story of Luther’s life, packed with political intrigue, kidnappings, and life-or-death showdowns. At the same time, it’s a story about the most important questions of life, including “Who am I?” “What is my purpose” and “How do I get right with God?” It’s a must-see for any lifelong Lutheran, and a chance to share the message of your Lutheran heritage with others. And the only place you can see the film is in the theater on the night of our church’s special event. This is the first time in more than 60 years that Lutherans have made a feature-length film about Martin Luther and the Reformation. Filmed in historic locations across Europe, this movie brings Luther’s story to life with exquisite attention to detail. It’s a chance to strengthen your faith by revisiting the birth of Protestant Reformation, and to share that experience with others. (edited)
Read the Bible in 2018: Join the Good Shepherd Daily Bible Reading Plan in 2018. Read through the Bible during the year. It is called the Commuter Plan because it can be read during your commute on bus or train in 15 minutes. There are three readings each day – five days a week. Two readings are from the Old Testament and one reading is from the New Testament. Download your copy of the plan today at gs4nj.org/biblereading or pick up a copy in the church lobby.
Blood Drive: Our next blood drive will be on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 8 am – 2 pm. You can make your appointment on line at tinyurl.com/good-shepherd-drive or by calling 800-933-2566. If we hit our 30-pint goal, one lucky donor will win a jersey from the team and player of their choice (current players only.) Please sign up on line, or use the sign-up sheet on the kitchen counter.
CONFIRMATION: The Confirmation Class is working on making blankets for Project Linus. We are in need of 60 x 60 inches blanket material to make these blankets. There will be a box on the stage to leave the material. If you cannot get material, monetary donations are welcome and appreciated as well. We need this by December 20th.
Confirmation Class is also in need of monetary donations to help pay for the cost of confirmation, the materials, and retreat. If anyone would like to donate, you can put in the offering plate and clearly mark the envelope CONFIRMATION.
Numana Meal Packing Event 2018: We will be hosting our meal packing event on Saturday, June 2, 1028. We packed 80,000 meals last year, but this year we hope to double that number and pack 160,000 meals. Double the meals will help double the children.
This means we will need to raise $48,000 to make that happen. That is a big number, but we can break that number down. We will pack 740 boxes that contain 216 meals each. Each box is $65. We need just 740 donations of $65. Another way of looking at it is that each meal costs 30¢. For every .30¢ that is donated, we can provide one more meal. It happens just a little bit at a time.
Donations can be made online by going to gs4nj.org/mealpacking. This link will take you to the donation page for our meal packing event on Numana’s website. If you would like to send a check, it can be made out to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and specify “For Numana Meal Packing event” on the memo line.
