Please Support The Youth’s SUPER BOWL SUB SHOP!: Please consider supporting the youth of Good Shepherd during their Super Bowl sub shop. There will be subs, soups, and salads available for Game Day. Our youth will be available to take your order at the kitchen counter before and after the 9 am service, and following the 10:30 am service today, January 28th. Order pickup will be Sunday, February 4th. Funds raised will go to support the Youth Room renovation and their trip to the 2019 National Youth Gathering in Minneapolis, MN.
Join the Spring Choir!! We will be singing on Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, January 28th immediately following the 10:30 service. Tentative rehearsal dates are: 1/28, 2/4, 11, 18, and 25, March 4, 11, 18 and 25. There will be one Wednesday evening rehearsal on March 21st at 7:30 pm.
Baptism Orientation: Expecting? Or do you have a child to be baptized? Join us on Saturday, February 10 for a Baptism Orientation. Go to gs4nj.org/baptism for more information.
Ash Wednesday Worship: Ash Wednesday is February 14. Good Shepherd will host worship at 7 pm on that evening. Communion and the Imposition of Ashes will be offered.
Prayer Vigil: Once again, Good Shepherd will be hosting a prayer vigil from the end of the Maundy Thursday worship service to the beginning of the Good Friday service. We are in the beginning stages of making plans for this event. If you are interested in being part of the planning team, please email in the church office.
CONFIRMATION NEEDS Material & Donations: The Confirmation Class is working on making blankets for Project Linus. We are in need of 60 x 60 inches blanket material to make these blankets. There will be a box on the stage to leave the material. If you cannot get material, monetary donations are welcome and appreciated as well.
Confirmation Class is also in need of monetary donations to help pay for the cost of confirmation, the materials, and retreat. If anyone would like to donate, you can put in the offering plate and clearly mark the envelope CONFIRMATION.
Numana Meal Packing Event 2018: We will be hosting our meal packing event on Saturday, June 2, 1028. We packed 80,000 meals last year, but this year we hope to double that number and pack 160,000 meals. Double the meals will help double the children.
This means we will need to raise $48,000 to make that happen. That is a big number, but we can break that number down. We will pack 740 boxes that contain 216 meals each. Each box is $65. We need just 740 donations of $65. Another way of looking at it is that each meal costs 30¢. For every .30¢ that is donated, we can provide one more meal. It happens just a little bit at a time.
Donations can be made online by going to gs4nj.org/mealpacking. This link will take you to the donation page for our meal packing event on Numana’s website. If you would like to send a check, it can be made out to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and specify “For Numana Meal Packing event” on the memo line.
Be a Part of a Team: There are many ways for you to serve. You are here on Sunday mornings, so why not be a part of the “action”. See the list below of some of the ways you can help:
AV Tech Support: During either 9 or 10:30 service with the sound or screens, no experience necessary; we will train you. It would not be every Sunday, every 3rd or 4th week.
Usher: During either 9 or 10:30 service. This is a rotating schedule when you are available. Two of our faithful ushers are away, so we could use more help.
Communion Assistant: During either 9 or 10:30 service.
Nursery Help: During the 10:30 service only
Altar Guild: One month every 3 months with a team of 3 or 4 other ladies.
These are just a few of the ways that you can be a part of the service. If you are interested in helping with any of these, or Sunday School, please email in the church office with your information and we will get you started.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
Portals of Prayer: Last issue is in the Narthex! Due to budget cut backs, we will no longer be offering the Portals of Prayer. You can purchase these on your own by subscribing using the insert in the book, or go to cph.org/portals and subscribe either in hard copy or digitally.
Read the Bible in 2018: Join the Good Shepherd Daily Bible Reading Plan in 2018. Read through the Bible during the year. It is called the Commuter Plan because it can be read during your commute on bus or train in 15 minutes. There are three readings each day – five days a week. Two readings are from the Old Testament and one reading is from the New Testament. Download your copy of the plan today at gs4nj.org/biblereading or pick up a copy in the church lobby.
