Mother’s Day Bag Sale Volunteers needed: The Children’s Center will be selling “Violet Ray” Handbags just in time for Mother’s Day. If you would like to volunteer to come to the school one or two mornings/afternoons, please let in the church office know. We are looking for mornings 8:30 to about 9:45, and afternoons from 12:15 – 1:30 (approximately) These bags will also be available to the congregation if anyone is interested in purchase a handbag on Sunday morning — they are available in the Teacher’s Lunch Room in the Education wing. These will make great Mother’s Day gifts.
Spring Work Day: NEXT SATURDAY: Work Day will be Saturday, May 5th starting 8:30 am. There are always many different types of jobs to be done in and around the church, and the more hands the better. No experience necessary. Please let in the church office know if you can help out.
Teacher Appreciation Week: May 6-12. We would like to show the teachers of the Children’s Center how much we appreciate them. We would like to treat them to a nice breakfast one day that week. (Tuesday May 8th is the tentative date right now). If you would like to donate home baked muffins, or fresh fruits for them to enjoy throughout the day, please let Marie in the church office know by Sunday, April 29th. These items would have to be in church by 8 am on the day of their breakfast. If you would like to make a monetary donation to put towards purchasing what we need, please put it in an envelope, and clearly mark: FOR MARIE for Teacher’s Lunch and put in my mail box outside the church office.
Bagging at Shoprite: On Saturday, May 12th, we will be bagging groceries at the Shop Rite on Route 9 North from 10 am – 4 pm. You can take a two-hour shift, or stay the whole time, whatever works into your schedule. We need extra people on the late shift, 2-4. ALL proceeds will go towards the Numana Meal Packing Event. Mowers Needed: Spring, yes Spring is upon us, and that means it’s time for the grass to start growing, and the weeds will begin to pop up. If you are interested in helping keep the grounds looking nice, please sign up on today’s connection card. New Member Orientation: Join us for a new member orientation on Saturday, June 16 from 8 am-11:30 am. During the new member orientation, we will look at what we believe, what we value, and what it means to be a member of Good Shepherd. This is for everyone who desires to learn more about the church, is interested in becoming a member, or desires to review the basics of our faith. After the orientation is over, you will have the opportunity to sign a new member covenant and then be received as a New Member of Good Shepherd.
Baptism Orientation: Are you Expecting or have in infant. Join us on Saturday, June 16 at 11:30 am for the baptism orientation. This orientation is for any parents who are interested in having their child baptized at Good Shepherd. The orientation will last approximately one hour. It will be led by Pastor Phil. We will look at what we as Lutherans believe and teach about baptism. We will also go through the commitments which parents make before the Lord on the day their child’s baptism. If parents are not members of Good Shepherd they should make arrangements to attend the New Member Orientation prior to the Baptism Orientation.
VBS–Shipwrecked: There are all types of fun was you can help. We need group leaders, group guides, session leaders and helpers, and just bodies to be sure that all the kids have a fantastic time. It’s a week filled with fun and laughter for you and for the kids. VBS will run from July 30 – August 3 from 6 – 8 pm. If you have any questions, please reach out to or Susannah Bergfeldt.
Numana Meal Packing Event 2018: We will be hosting our meal packing event on Saturday, June 2, 1028. We packed 80,000 meals last year, but this year we hope to double that number and pack 160,000 meals. Double the meals will help double the children. This means we will need to raise $48,000 to make that happen. That is a big number, but we can break that number down. We will pack 740 boxes that contain 216 meals each. Each box is $65. We need just 740 donations of $65. Another way of looking at it is that each meal costs 30¢. For every .30¢ that is donated, we can provide one more meal. It happens just a little bit at a time. Donations can be made online by going to gs4nj.org/mealpacking. This link will take you to the donation page for our meal packing event on Numana’s website. If you would like to send a check, it can be made out to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and specify “For Numana Meal Packing event” on the memo line.
Spare Change for Haiti: We will be collecting any spare change each week to help our Numana Meal Packing Event. There are baggies in the Narthex for you to take home and fill up and bring back on Sunday morning.
